Bach Flower Remedies were discovered by Dr Bach, a Harley Street Doctor. He felt desperately disappointed with conventional medicine in that he felt it was failing to treat ill patients effectively.
Dr Bach left Conventional Medicine and threw himself into his new work of discovering the healing benefits of 38 different plants. Each of these plants balances a particular emotion or mood, is natural and can be taken by all. Bach flower essences are non toxic. If the wrong remedy type were to be taken it would have no effect at all. On the other hand the correct well matched remedy has the effect of balancing the emotions allowing the body to heal more effectively.
Dr Bach believed that if we hold a negative thought pattern or mood for a long time, then this will, over time manifest as a physical complaint. As a result Dr Bach successfully treated a great number of wide ranging conditions through Bach Flower therapy.
Just as importantly, Dr Bach believed it essential that people themselves learned how to tune into their moods and treat themselves accordingly with the appropriate remedies. His brief was to help empower the individual to keep well and happy through self reliance.

The healing process
As existing emotions become balanced it is not unusual to experience a new emotion. This is perfectly normal. The body is like an onion with many layers that need peeling away. As one layer is peeled away another layer of emotion becomes exposed until the central core is reached. By this time you will have discovered and learned so much about yourself on this personal journey recognising any imbalances that can soon be corrected.
Each treatment bottle will last about three weeks. During this time it is a good idea to keep a simple journal jotting down your feelings using key words. You may attach a scale of 1 -10 to quantify the range of emotion experienced. In this way you will be able to see the changes in your journal over the three week period. The transition from an imbalanced state to that of a fully balanced state can be so subtle and easily missed if not recorded in some way.
When a new emotion is experienced as part of the learning and healing process, it can be helpful to take 4 drops of rescue remedy in addition to the existing remedies. Rescue Remedy need only be taken if the new mood/emotion is perhaps a little more uncomfortable than you would like.
The remedy dosage is 4 drops, 4 times a day from your treatment bottle. First thing in the morning, last thing at night and two times during the day. The remedies may be taken in a variety of ways. Via the pipette directly in your mouth – avoid touching the pipette with your mouth to avoid contamination. The drops may be put in a hot or cold drink or may be applied externally by rubbing onto the lips, behind the ears or on the temples.

At any one time we are all feeling challenged with one emotion or another. To make our lives work more smoothly here below is a list of the 38 flowers, their moods, to help us match the correct remedy to mood.. See which remedy you may need at the moment. Agrimony – Masking your true feelings, appearing happy to the outside world when in fact you are tortured with worries when alone.
Aspen – You are anxious and nervous with fears that you cannot explain. Very sensitive to your surroundings.
Beech – You find that you are critical and intolerant of others.
Centaury – You are so anxious to please that you find it difficult to say no.
Cerato – You doubt your own judgement that you find the need to ask others their opinion, only to later regret not using your own judgement in the first place.
Cherry Plum – You feel that you are losing control, that you may be losing your mind.
Chestnut Bud – You seem to make the same mistakes over and over again. You have difficulty in learning from experience.
Chicory – You are over possessive and tend to set conditions in your relationships with others.
Clematis -You are very often in a dream state not fully aware of your surroundings. You are inclined to day dream about the future.
Crab Apple – You feel unhappy about certain aspects of yourself. You are inclined to fuss over details to almost obsessional proportions.

Red Chestnut – You worry excessively about friends/relatives to the extent, that these thoughts of over-concern, preoccupy you all the time.
Rescue Remedy – For when you are exposed to a stressful or a very demanding situation.
Rock Rose – You are in a state of terror, have nightmares, in an intense state of fear.
Rock Water – You are rigid/ inflexible with many aspects of your life, eg exercise, diet, standards but you do not impose these on others.
Scleranthus – For indecision between two or three things. You ping-pong between your decisions without ever settling on one decision.
Star of Bethlehem – For being in a shocked state or having suffered shocks in the past that have never been addressed.
Sweet Chestnut – For feeling that you can not endure anymore, feeling all possible outcomes have been used without good effect. Overwhelmed with circumstances.
Vervain – You fight for a cause and seek justice passionately and tirelessly, leaving you hyperactively tired and fidgety.
Vine – You impose your views forcefully not wanting to hear the views of others. You have strong leadership skills and set yourself and others, goals.
Walnut – You are going through a number of changes in your life or at work. You feel the strain of settling in somewhere new.
Water Violet – You enjoy your own company finding it awkward to hold a conversation with others or to socialize easily. You can be proud and aloof.
White Chestnut – You are preoccupied with unwanted thoughts.
Wild Oat – You do not know which career path or job to take up.
Wild Rose – You do not make the effort in anything. You feel apathetic, resigned to whatever life gives you.
Willow – You feel sorry for yourself as you feel you are a victim of circumstance. You feel resentful.
Treatments for Plants
If a plant becomes diseased use Crab Apple, by adding two drops to a jug of water and spraying it regularly on a daily basis. When re-potting a plant or moving it to a new position use Walnut. Add two drops of this remedy to the day’s supply of water. When a plant looks limp and a looking a little sorry for itself use Willow.
Rescue remedy may be appropriate where the plant has been over watered, over scorched by the sun, or damaged in any way.
